Can I get a free NHS eye test?

Free NHS home eye tests are available for those who can't visit an optician alone due to health or mobility concerns and meet the NHS criteria. Many of our customers qualify for NHS-funded eye tests for reasons such as:

  • being 60 years old or older,
  • being diabetic,
  • having glaucoma or being at risk (for instance, due to a family history of the condition),
  • being registered as partially sighted or blind.

Don't worry if you're not sure, our friendly team can check eligibility for you. Just click the button below, complete the form and we'll give you a call back to explain all the options.

If NHS funding isn't available for you, private tests are available for just £60.

Are hearing tests and hearing aids available on the NHS?

Here at OutsideClinic, we are contracted to provide NHS hearing services. Our home hearing tests are free of charge, whether you qualify for our NHS service or choose our private service.

And depending on where you live, we may be able to offer you fully NHS-funded hearing aids should you need them.

BTE  (behind-the-ear) hearing aids, and very occasionally RIC  (receiver-in-canal, also known as RITE/receiver-in-the-ear), tend to be the types of hearing aids available through the NHS. You may need to pay for private treatment if you’d like a different type of hearing aid.

If you’re unsure and want to talk through your options, why not have a chat with one of our friendly advisers who will be happy to help.

How our service works

  1. Book your appointment: Request an appointment by completing the form, and our team will call you to explain your options and arrange a suitable time.
  2. Clinician arrives to carry out the test: Our clinician arrives at your home with their portable testing equipment and carry out a full eye or hearing examination, just like the one you'd have at a high street store, but in the comfort of your home.
  3. Results: They will clearly explain the results to you straight away and discuss any issues or updates to your prescription.
  4. If needed, choose your glasses or hearing aids: Choose from a wide range of frames or hearing aids for all budgets and styles. You can try on as many glasses as you like.
  5. Delivery: Once you've chosen, we'll arrange for your new glasses or hearing aids to be made for you and delivered to your door.

Specialised tests for people living with dementia

Although our home tests are an excellent choice for anyone, they are particularly beneficial for those living with dementia or those with other complex needs.

Our opticians and audiologists are trained to support a range of cognitive abilities, including dementia, which allows each individual to receive the best possible care in their own familiar surroundings.

We also purposely have longer and flexible appointments slots which allow us to do the test at a slower pace if needed.

And there is always the option to have a loved one or carer present during the test for added reassurance.
