Free NHS-funded home eye tests with Cheryl
Providing home eye care spanning from Glasgow, Dundee and Fife
Cheryl Clelland has been delivering eye care at home for over 15 years and joined the team at Outside Clinic in 2011.
"I have been supporting people with their eye care since I graduated from Glasgow Caledonian University in 2007 with a BSc (Hons) in Optometry and Visual Science. My career started at Specsavers, in one of their busiest high street practices in Scotland. I enjoyed the fast pace and diverse nature of high street optometry, but the opportunity arose to trial a new domiciliary service which has been my specialty ever since.I am passionate that everyone should have access to high quality eye care. There can be many difficulties people face when attending a high street practice, eye tests at home help remove these barriers and promote independence. Spending more time with each patient within their home environment allows me to understand their exact visual needs and challenges. It is a privilege to have patients, many of whom have become friends, invite me to their homes year on year.
While not travelling Scotland running my optometry practise with Outside Clinic, my husband and I are together raising our three children- two sons at primary school and a daughter who is at nursery. Balancing my career and family is rewarding. It is also fulfilling to pass my knowledge and experience onto my children and instil the importance of eye health and regularly getting your eyes examined by a professional!"

What's the cost of a home eye test?
You can have your eyes tested at home, at no cost to you, if you are unable to get to the opticians unaccompanied - maybe due to a mobility issue or an underlying health condition.
Many of our customers qualify for NHS-funded eye tests for various reasons such as:
- being 60 years old or older,
- being diabetic,
- having glaucoma or being at risk (for instance, due to a family history of the condition),
- being registered as partially sighted or blind.
However, there are many other reasons that could qualify you for NHS funding.
How does a home eye test work?
An eye test at home with OutsideClinic is comfortable and non-invasive.
Before your appointment, you’ll receive confirmation of the date and a phone call on the day with the expected arrival time.
The Optician will arrive with their portable equipment, confirm your details, and ask about your medical history and symptoms. They’ll conduct the test using an eye chart, measure your eye pressure, check the health of your eyes, and determine your prescription.
After explaining the results, they’ll help you choose new glasses if needed, which will be delivered to your home. The entire process takes about an hour.
